Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice Announces Land Donation for New Hospice Residence

The Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice (NHCH) is thrilled to announce a significant step forward in its mission to provide compassionate hospice care to the Norfolk Haldimand region. The organization has received a generous offer of land from local businessman Alan Williamson, honouring the legacy of his late father, to construct a much-needed hospice facility.

For years, NHCH has been dedicated to supporting families through grief and bereavement in the Norfolk and Haldimand counties. Despite a population of nearly 125,000, this region is currently the only area in the London-Hamilton-Niagara corridor without a dedicated hospice residence.

The proposed Centre for Hospice Palliative Care includes 10-bed hospice will feature amenities for caregivers and a workspace for healthcare professionals and volunteers, with an estimated cost of $14 million. This hospice is expected to accommodate over 100 residents annually plus an additional 200 individuals in grief & bereavement programs and will be designed for future expansion to meet the growing needs of the community.

The chosen country-like setting location, just outside of the town of Jarvis is ideally situated near the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 6, providing easy access for families from surrounding areas, including Delhi, Dunnville, Caledonia, and Port Rowan. NHCH plans to submit applications for zoning adjustments and will seek Haldimand County’s approval for the necessary land severance and road access.

While it is too early to establish a groundbreaking or completion date, NHCH has engaged an architect with experience in designing hospices, including the Hospice of Waterloo Region. The organization is eager to gauge community support for this vital project, which represents a breakthrough in their goal to establish a hospice care residence in the region.

“We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to working with the community and council to bring this vision to life.  We are very grateful for Mr. Williamson’s generous donation.” said Andrea Binkle, Executive Director of NHCH. “We believe that having a designated location will catalyze support throughout our communities.”
